With little movement in stocks there has been a corresponding lack of significant movement among the most widely-traded exchange-traded funds. One exception to this tendency has been in the energy sector, where traders betting against oil and natural gas stocks by way of short and leveraged short ETFs have engaged in some profit-taking late on Tuesday.
Here are 7 ETFs You Need to Know for Wednesday.
The ProShares UltraShort Oil & Gas ETF, DUG (DUG | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) pulled back on Tuesday after a two-day bounce. Down more than 2%, the exchange-traded fund remains within two points of its 200-day moving average.
Up just under 2% on the day, the iShares FTSE/Xinhua 25 Index, FXI (FXI | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), has rallied for four out of the past five days. The stock continues to be dramatically stretched below its 200-day moving average - though FXI is increasingly overbought in the short term.
Down five out of the past seven days, the Select Technology Sector SPDRS, XLK (XLK | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), continues to pull back on Tuesday, setting a new intraday low for the month of August. The Semiconductor HOLDRS, SMH (SMH | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), were lower for the seventh out of the past eight days.
Although among the less widely-traded exchange-traded funds, the Broadband HOLDRS, BDH (BDH | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) pulled back for a second day, becoming increasingly oversold as it moves to within a point of its 200-day moving average.
After rallying to test its 200-day moving averages, the retreat in the homebuilders continues as the Select Homebuilders Sector SPDRS, XHB (XHB | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) pull back for a second consecutive session on Tuesday.ewt
The iShares Brazil Index Fund, EWZ (EWZ | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) was lower for a third consecutive day on Tuesday, reflecting continued weakness in emerging market stocks.
