More selling in stocks as of midday on Wednesday as the government bailout of American International Group (AIG | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) has so far failed to stem widespread concerns about financial companies - concern that is dragging stocks lower across the board.

Among the brighter spots halfway through trading on Wednesday are gold and mining stocks, many of which are up impressively. This list includes Barrick Gold Corporation (ABK | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), up nearly 9%, and Newmont Mining Corporation (NEM | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), which was up more than 7% by midday.

Today's biggest midday movers include SanDisk Corporation (SNDK | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), which is the subject of a hostile bid from Samsung, and Morgan Stanley (MS | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), which was among the many financial stocks traders and investors were selling aggressively this week.

Here is a list of stocks that have gained 20% or more so far in trading today.
