MidnightTrader.com Earnings Play: TiVo

TiVo (TIVO | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) is slated to report its Q1 results later today. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial are expecting the company to report a loss of $0.01 per share on revenue of $55.6 million.

TIVO is one to watch in extended-hours trading as the stock favors widening between the sessions. It has extended its evening move during the next day's trade in 10 of the last 16 quarters. In the near-term, the stock is holding to its widening trend, with more aggressive next-day trade for three of the last four quarterly reports; the exception was last quarter, when shares reversed direction.

On March 5, 2008, the stock gained 3.7% during evening trading after reporting a narrower loss. The stock fell 2.2% the next day.

On Nov. 28, 2007, TIVO advanced 6.2% in after-hours trade after reporting better-than-expected Q3 results and guiding in-line for its Q4. The stock added to its upside the next day, rising 24.7% by the close on Nov. 29.

On Aug. 29, 2007, the stock fell 4.5% after the company reports a wider loss than the year ago period. The loss fattened to 9% the next day.

On May 30, 2007, the stock eased 0.8% in the evening hours despite swinging to an unexpected profit on higher revenue. The loss was a deeper 1.7% by the close of trading the next day.

On March 7, 2007, the stock gained 2.4% in the evening session after the company beat with sales and reported a smaller-than-expected loss; it guided in line t lower for sales. The stock reversed to close down 0.8% the next day.
